COGG Research Bursaries 2025
An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG) welcomes applications from individual researchers or institutions to undertake the following research:
- An international literature review on the use of minority languages in mainstream language education settings in comparable jurisdictions
- Policies
- Emphasis on language use in informal settings
- Various supports
- Best practices that are successful in terms of language learning
- one-year research – maximum budget €20,000
- The teaching of Irish at post-primary level in English-medium (L2) schools, including a whole-school approach and links with the community
- Best practices
- Effective methodologies
- Classroom-based approaches that prioritise communication and language use
- Fostering a positive attitude and the connection between language use opportunities outside the classroom and practice in the classroom
- two-year research – maximum budget €40,000
and applications are invited from individual researchers or institutions to undertake research (as a PhD) in either of these two areas (only two bursaries will be available):
- The needs of gifted pupils/students in Gaeltacht and Irish-medium primary and post-primary schools
- Additional educational needs and provision for disability education in Gaeltacht and Irish-medium schools.
Depending on COGG’s resources, PhD bursaries may be part-funded rather than fully funded.
Please note: if an application does not correspond to any of the areas mentioned above, the application will not be considered by the independent panel.
