New Council Members of COGG

Minister for Education and Skills announces appointment of the new council members of An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta

Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’Sullivan, TD, has announced the appointment of the Council of An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG) for a new term of office ending in December 2018.

COGG was established under the Education Act 1998 to advise on the provision of Irish in schools generally, and on teaching through Irish in Gaeltacht and Irish-medium schools, to coordinate the provision of textbooks and learning materials in Irish, to provide support services to schools and to engage in research.

The Minister said that COGG has a key role in the development of Irish medium education and Irish language teaching and in ensuring that schools are well equipped with quality learning resources to meet the needs of teachers and students.

COGG plays very important role in the implementation of the Government’s 20 year strategy for Irish and it will have  an important contribution make in supporting  the DES Gaeltacht Education policy which will be launched in 2016.

The Minister thanked the outgoing members of COGG for their commitment and professionalism, and said she was “looking forward to working closely with the new COGG Council over the coming years”.
